What happened between Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck? New reports are saying that Affleck wanted to work while Garner had more responsibility raising their three kids. So did this cause the split? Either way, Affleck and Garner are determined to remain amicable and are even on vacation with their children for July 4th.
Why are Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner splitting up? That's the question on fans' minds this week as new information starts to emerge on the couple's differing views on marriage.
Though Ben Affleck didn't see an issue with being away on location for months, Garner reportedly wanted the Batman v Superman star to be far more involved in their day-to-day lives. Friends of the high-profile couple say Affleck is an incredible father. The problem? He was never home.
“He’s like a `50s dad,” a source told People. “He thinks work is your priority and providing money for your family is your priority, and raising the kids day to day and making a nice house is the wife’s priority.”

This brought up some major differences between Affleck and Garner, who announced their divorce this week after 10 years of marriage. Garner felt she was left alone to raise the three children while working on her movies Miracles from Heaven and Nine Lives. She also felt that when Affleck was home there was little time left for romance..
Sources told TMZ that while Affleck’s career was taking off, Garner was starting to feel neglected in their relationship. Affleck wasn’t a “present husband.”
“Ben’s frequent absences didn’t work for this marriage,” a source said. His work commitments, “outside interests and personal issues,” “had become a bigger problem than either had imagined,” another source added.

"He in no way thinks a [woman’s] place is in the home,” a source said. “Quite the contrary, he has on numerous occasions supports and pushes Jen to work. She worked this summer while he was home.”
Affleck and Garner are doing their best to remain amicable. As of now, Affleck plans to live on the same property so he can co-parent the three children. This is similar to the setup Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have. Martin lives on the same block as Paltrow does in California.
When they announced their divorce Affleck and Garner said they would “go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
Following the breakup news, they took Violet, Seraphina and Samuel on vacation to their home in the Bahamas for July 4th.
“They got the kids out of L.A. as soon as school was out,” a source told Us. “[The Bahamas] is a place they’ve been going to for years that’s very private and special for their kids. When either of them have had work commitments they have been leaving to go fulfill them.”
